The Adopt-a-Garden program provides essential donor support for community, schoolyard, and backyard gardens throughout the Kansas City metropolitan area. Your gift helps to fund our core mission and programs, including essential operating costs, and helps to purchase vegetable seeds, plants, and fertilizer to enable low-income families and others in Kansas City to produce food from garden plots.
With help from our dedicated Adopt-a-Garden supporters, KCCG is able to provide:
- Supplies and technical assistance for families living in Kansas City’s “food deserts,” who are overcoming limited access to healthy food by creating garden spaces in the urban core;
- Free gardening skills workshops for our community gardeners working to grow their own food at the new Eastwood Hills garden at the site of a former city jail, and other community garden spaces throughout Kansas City;
- Support to create and expand garden projects at area schools, such as Border Star Montessori and Troost Elementary;
- Garden construction supplies for area nonprofits and congregations such as Hillcrest Transitional Housing, Truman Heritage Habitat for Humanity, Rainbow Mennonite Church, and many others that are hard at work growing gardens for families, neighborhoods, and people in need throughout the metropolitan area.
