Dear Friends of KCCG ,
If you’ve been following the news, you may have heard about a recent freeze on federal grants. Unfortunately, this crisis is hitting home for us.
Kansas City Community Gardens has worked hard to secure federal support, with contracts totaling $310,000 this fiscal year—more than 20% of our budget. Those contracts are now in jeopardy.
While legal challenges are unfolding, we don’t know when—or if—this funding will return.
This is happening just as gardeners are gearing up to grow their own nutritious food at home, in rental plots, at schools, and other community sites. The days are finally getting longer, and the ground is warming up. But many people may go without the help they need for successful harvests.
The impact would be devastating: families, schools, and community groups who rely on us to grow their own healthy food could be left without the resources they need.
Without your immediate action, we face the difficult reality of cutting essential programs and losing key staff. Please join us by making a gift of $50, $100, $500, or any amount today.
Why is this so important? Food insecurity is rising—1 in 8 adults and 1 in 6 children in Kansas City struggle to access nutritious food. Together, we can ensure our community has the tools to grow and thrive.
Your support will provide seeds, plants, and supplies on a sliding scale, making fresh food accessible for more people. It will fund free workshops, online resources, and educational programs that teach kids where their food comes from—helping them make healthy choices for life.
Keep in mind, monthly donations provide steady, reliable support in uncertain times. You can set up your monthly gift by clicking the button below or calling Don Schreiner at 816-912-0591 for assistance.
Thank you for standing with us when your community needs you most.
With gratitude,

Jennifer Meyer
