Who We Are
Our Mission
To support schools in growing their own vegetable gardens that increase students’ access to healthy food, hands-on learning, and community building. We do this by providing new garden site consultations, low-cost plants and seeds for schools, free workshops and training for teachers, and other resources as needed.
Schoolyard Garden Seasons
- Planting: March 15th – April 15th
- Vegetables: Onions, potatoes, greens, sugar snap peas, spinach, lettuce, brassica, and more
- Continually harvest before the last week of school
- Planting: May 1st – May 31st
- Vegetables: Sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, melons, zucchini, beans
- Continually harvest before first frost
- Planting: August 1st – August 21st
- Vegetables: Greens (lettuce, kale, collards, mustard greens), carrots, beets, broccoli, and cabbage
- Continually harvest before first frost
- SYG accepts fruit orders in February (first come first serve basis)
- Fruit varieties include: Bush Cherries, Raspberries, Strawberries, Liberty Apple, Pristine Apple
- Fruit gets planted in late March through early April
- Working with students ages 3rd grade and up, we help schools build new gardens.
- Summer Constructions: June 1st – July 31st
- Winter Constructions: November 1- February 28
- Garlic varieties include both hard & soft neck varieties
- Plant and mulch garlic November through December
