April is here and that means Tomato Days is right around the corner! This year, we will serve Green and Yellow Card Members on April 25th and all cards beginning on April 26th.
Please note that Tomato Days hours for these two days will be 9am-4pm.

Would you like to volunteer for Tomato Days?
Every year, KCCG provides more than 180,000 veggie transplants to the Kansas City Community... and Tomato Days are the busiest sale days of the gardening year! We are looking for volunteers to help welcome gardeners and direct customers through the sale. Can you join us this year? Volunteer shifts are 4 hours long (a.m. or p.m.) and lunch is provided.

Growing Herbs
Growing fresh herbs in your own backyard is easy and it can be a wonderful complement to your vegetable garden. There are so many varieties of herbs that it is often overwhelming to the beginning herb gardener. The workshop will cover all aspects of herb gardening with a special focus on the important culinary herbs.
Tomatoes, Peppers, & Sweet Potatoes
Are you overwhelmed by the number of tomato varieties available? Are you confused about heirloom tomatoes? Do your pepper plants not produce as many peppers as you would like? Are you disappointed when you dig up your sweet potatoes? Come learn how to select, plant and care for tomatoes, peppers and sweet potatoes.
Planting For Beneficial Insects & Pollinators
Insectary or pollinator gardens are great ways to lure beneficial insects to your yard and garden. Learn about what native wildflowers and common culinary herbs you can use to create a more eco-friendly, bio-diverse garden.

Many gardeners are interested in growing organically but what does “Organic Gardening” really mean? Come and learn how to apply organic methods in your own garden by avoiding synthetic pesticides and fertilizers while using natural building a foundation of healthy soil.
Join Us For Grow, Cook, Give.
KCCG is excited to be the beneficiary of the annual Grow, Cook, Give. at Pryde's in Westport!
Along with delicious appetizers and a happy hour, this year's event will include a charcuterie board demonstration with Dame Lauren Lane, a culinary influencer marketer at lauren-lane.com and an edible flower + herb container garden demonstration by Ben Sharda of KCCG.
There will also be a raffle which includes cookware, gift cards, wine, container gardens, and more! Must be present to win.
Tickets are $30 for admission (credit cards are not accepted at the door) and raffle tickets are $20. Purchase admission and raffle tickets online up until April 16th at the button below.
KCCG Accepting Summer Internship Applications
Kansas City Community Gardens Summer Internship Program is an unpaid, service-learning opportunity intended for those interested in horticulture, healthy food access and equity, and community development in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The internship provides an in-depth look at some of Kansas City Community Gardens Programs and their work to accomplish the organization’s mission.
These programs include the Beanstalk Children’s Garden, Giving Grove orchard program, and Greenhouse Operations. This is a unique learning opportunity, where interns will have the chance to learn and assist these programs with a wide scope of duties that are essential to the daily operations of the organization, ranging from educating children about healthy food to hands-on tasks related to vegetable garden and fruit orchard maintenance.
