This week, KCCG welcomed Cassie Dolinar and her high school health classes from Grandview High School to help harvest veggies out of the Beanstalk Children’s Garden!
The kids range in age from 9th-12th grade, and a lot of them are interested in or wanting to pursue a career in health. Over the two day harvest, 130 students came out to help!
The students helped us harvest our 30th Anniversary Blend lettuce and our Easter Egg radishes. Many of the students had never tasted a radish before and they were surprised to find that they were spicy.
Almost all of them tried both the lettuce and the radish, and were encouraged to taste even more vegetables from our garden.
They helped us to harvest, wash, and consume the lettuce and radishes directly from the garden, thus associating the plant itself with food you might buy in a grocery store. Several mentioned that they were interested in coming back and being a volunteer with us!
KCCG and the Beanstalk Garden staff would like to thank Cassie and her students for helping us with the first harvest of the season!
