We have some very exciting news at Kansas City Community Gardens! It is with immense appreciation and excitement that we announce our selection as the KC Restaurant Week 2018 benefiting charity!
Over the past several years, KCCG has seen an exponential increase in demand for our services to the community. Since 2009, our memberships increased 59%, the number of Community Partner Gardens increased 160%, the number of our Schoolyard Gardens has increased 270%, and we have added a wholly new program, The Giving Grove, which just surpassed an established 100 community orchards that are now starting to produce fruit for residents in need.
In order to meet this increased need, KCCG has been faced with the challenge of securing enough funding to cover the cost of providing quality technical assistance, education, and low-cost seeds, plants, and other gardening materials to our clients and community partners.
In January, KCCG will have the opportunity to partner with over 100 Kansas City restaurants who share the value of giving back to their community, as well as the value of increasing access to fresh, nutritious food for all of Kansas City’s residents! Proceeds from each participating restaurant’s special KC Restaurant Week menu will benefit the organization, giving KCCG a good head start for the 2018 spring gardening season.
More importantly, being the KC Restaurant Week 2018 charity recipient gives Kansas City Community Gardens an incredible and unique opportunity to increase awareness about food-insecurity and how community gardening can increase food access in KC.
Thank you to Visit KC and the Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association for making this partnership a reality. Together we will make a difference in transforming the food landscape of this great city we call home.
