Besides the excitement of spring in the air and plants making their way from the greenhouse to gardens, we are also excited about some behind the scenes work we have been doing this winter for all of our Spanish speaking gardeners.
I took a minute to check in with Gabriel Racca, our Bilingual Outreach & Volunteer Coordinator, to learn more.
Gabriel shared that this winter he, along with Amanda Woolley, our Community Partner Gardens Coordinator, collaborated to translate a plethora of our gardening resources into Spanish. In addition to this project, Gabriel also helped to further build out the Spanish portion of our website. Gardeners can now easily access our online membership form in Spanish, along with recipes, kids-gardening activities, and family gardening ideas. We also have gardening guide sheets translated to Spanish.
In addition, Gabriel is leading a series of workshops in Spanish this year. Read more about them here and register here. The next workshop is Thursday, April 22nd and the subject is “Growing Tomatoes, Peppers and Sweet Potatoes.”
I also learned that Gabriel has been collaborating on an exciting project with MU Extension where they are presenting a series of classes in Spanish called “Huerta Sostenible Familiar: MU Sembrador”. The series focuses on sustainability, home gardening as well as commercializing produce. This project is completely free to attend for all people living in Missouri. A current perk of this program is that all who attend will automatically get signed up *for free* for a KCCG membership, including 10 free packs of seeds! If you’d like to sign up visit: Huerta Sostenible Familiar: MU Sembrador
And if you have any questions or would like to explore our Spanish resources further, you can contact Gabriel, gabriel{at}kccg.org.
We are excited to have these now available online to continue to promote gardening for everyone!
We are always looking for ways to better support our community. Have more suggestions? Send us an email.
