With all the excitement from the NFL Draft in town this year, it seemed everyone was affected in some way. KCCG and SYG were no exception! The NFL partnered with us and Lowe’s to construct garden beds at Central Middle School. With intensive planning, the late April morning sprang upon us all and we readied ourselves for the garden adventure that ensued!

Plenty of volunteers showed up on behalf of all parties. Double stacked garden beds were efficiently constructed, and soil was moved to fill them up. NFL Draft hopefuls showed up in a black bus, along with various press outlets. Students soon followed and the fun began!

The NFL Draft hopefuls didn’t hesitate as they eagerly jumped into the garden groove. They assisted students in filling wheel barrels with soil and dumping them into beds. Next came the planting of various tomatoes, peppers, and lastly sprinkling of flower seeds. Hopes of the garden, draft candidates, and students were discussed. Plenty of laughs were shared too!
