This spring we asked schools to try out the Taste Test Tool to find out which veggies students would like to eat again. We had 32 schools submit taste test results during the month-long competition. A total of 432 students ages 3-18 years old participated in the taste test. Twelve vegetables and 4 SYG recipes were sampled amongst various sites. The most common veggies sampled were lettuce, green onions, spinach & kale.
To select our winners, we put all participating schools into the wheel of names and spun the wheel 3 times. Drumroll please…congratulations to our Spring 2022 Winners:
EarlystART UICS St. Mark
Faxon Elementary
Longfellow Elementary
One interesting take away from the survey process this spring was that sites who had students taste the veggie alone, and then taste it incorporated into one of our SYG recipes, noted a significant increase in students “yes” to eating the veggie again. This is a great reminder that repeated exposure to veggies is important for both kids and adults alike! Further, serving a veggie in a variety of ways provides a new opportunity to enjoy a vegetable.
Let us know if you want to do more Taste Test Contests in the future and what prizes you’d like to see! Winners, we will be in contact with you about picking up your prizes.
