Dear friends,
This spring, in Kansas City,
- A child who is growing up in a neighborhood with more gas stations than grocery stores will discover the joy and wonder of growing and tasting a radish for the first time.
- Teenagers will gather in a neighborhood garden, where they’ll learn valuable skills and take pride in the food they grow for their families. Once a littered, vacant lot, this space is now a safe and nurturing place.
- An immigrant family will develop friendships with their neighbors, while growing foods that are familiar – making Kansas City feel a little more like home.
- Residents of a senior center will gather outside around raised beds, built specially for them, where they’ll experience the joy of friendship – and the joy of a vine-ripened cherry tomato.
All of this will be possible because of generous friends like you, who empower the work of Kansas City Community Gardens.
Our mission is simple. We know that one in seven households in our city doesn’t have enough to eat. Through our programs, we meet our neighbors where they are and give them the tools and the knowledge they need to successfully grow healthy, fresh vegetables and fruit.
By adopting a garden, you will help us to provide low-cost seeds, plants and gardening supplies, along with tilling assistance and rental plots. You’ll help us build raised beds for schools and community centers and support the staff who will come alongside our gardeners with guidance and technical assistance.
Please make a gift today to support a community garden:
Your gift will empower KCCG gardeners to grow nearly 1 million pounds of fruits and vegetables this year. You’ll enable families to reclaim their food security and put fresh, nutritious foods within their reach. Together, we will make a real and lasting difference in the health and wellbeing of our community.
With warm thanks,
Ben Sharda
