I’ve talked with many of our garden coordinators over the past few weeks and as we gear up for spring, the sentiment seems to be the same – Yay! It’s garden planning season! And they are exactly right! Spring is on her way and it’s almost time to plant those cool season crops!
Making a planting plan is an important step in gardening that helps you map out which plants will grow where and ensures that you’re ordering the correct quantity for the space you’re growing in. A planting plan is also a great way to keep track of what was growing in previous seasons and can inform your decision about what crops you’ll choose for this season.
If you’re feeling excited about getting back in the garden, but aren’t quite sure how to get started with planning out what you’ll plant, check out our How to Make a Planting Plan video.
The planting plan PDF shown in the video can be found on our website and will also be included in the spring order email sent to all garden coordinators.
New this year, we also have our SYG Crop Varieties sheet that describes each variety we offer by season.
Planning your garden can be a fun activity to do with your students too. Check out our lesson plan for Researching Vegetables to Grow.
Still feeling unsure about what to order or how many broccoli plants fit in your raised bed? Fear not! This spring we are offering zoom office hours the week of March 1st – 5th to assist you in planning out your garden. Email your SYG coordinator to set up a time and get more details!
Last but not least, please remember that your spring order form comes via email from the sender syg{at}kccg.org. If you are not seeing it in your inbox, it may mean that your account is not current, and you’ll need to fill out your annual enrollment form to get your account up to date.
Please email your SYG coordinator with questions and concerns. Happy planning everyone!
