Whether you are gardening in your raised beds or growing in your Take Home Garden Kits, you can participate in the activity “Tracking Vegetable Growth Rates.”

Use this activity to encourage measuring skills, as well as observation and comparison skills.

This activity is a great way to help students observe how vegetables grow at different speeds.

In addition to measuring the growth, students can harvest a bit of the seedlings each week to taste test. By tasting the veggies each week, students can compare how the taste and flavor changes as a plant grows and develops.

How do the different seedlings taste 3 weeks after planting? What about 6 weeks after planting? Which vegetable plant is the widest? Which is the tallest? Which vegetable grew the fastest? What else have you observed from your garden’s growth this fall?
