A Big “Thank You” To Our Volunteers

As a gardener, you may know that amending soil with compost yields a healthier– more productive harvest.

Here at Kansas City Community Gardens, we believe (as funny as this sounds) that “our volunteers are like compost to a garden”. With the help of our volunteers, KCCG’s mission is strengthened and continues to grow, reaching out in the community to help people grow their own vegetables.

KCCG volunteer opportunities start as early as February. Duties include packing seeds in envelops, helping out at Gardens at Sunset (our annual fundraiser event), or lending a hand at a garden construction.
The Schoolyard Gardens team is so fortunate to have volunteers help pack school’s fall seed and plant orders.
This has been so helpful to the SYG team by freeing up more time to check in with schools that may have questions regarding the program
I checked in with one of our volunteers, Sally Cobb to hear how things were going.
How did you get started volunteering for Kansas City Community Gardens?
Learned about KCCG through a friend. I became a member and connected with Volunteer Coordinator, Gabriel Racca.

What is your favorite volunteer task at KCCG?
When there’s a group of volunteers around a table packing seeds in envelopes together.

What’s your favorite vegetable to grow?
Swiss chard and snap peas.

What’s your favorite vegetable to eat?

Green beans and corn.

Which vegetable did you pull the most often for SYG fall plant and seed orders?

Broccoli and lettuce.

A great big THANK YOU from the Schoolyard Gardens team to Sally, Sue-Ann, Shawn, Mickie and Leslie for filling our fall seed and plant orders. Our volunteers help us out in such a big way.
